March 2007

We bought all new kitchen appliances tonight and I am soooo freaking excited!! The bummer is they won’t be here for two weeks. Sigh. That’s a long time to live with our ghetto kitchen.

It’s nice to have a hookup at Best Buy – every little bit helps! And with the purchase of our fridge, we got a free iPod speaker system (a $200 value). We’re listening to it right now, and it’s really nice! It will be featured at our next bbq. Although I’m not sure I would have ever paid $200 for it, but oh well.

My first project with my new sewing machine – new panel curtains for our front door! And you can see our new paint job too….next step, the floors!

Today was good. Thanks to a friend of Matt’s, we got a great deal on a new washer and dryer. We’re hoping to be able to afford to replace all the appliances shortly, both so that it makes our lives a little easier, and also to up the value in the house.

The second good thing that happened today, was that Matt asked me to be his Best Woman at his wedding! I was so honored, and flattered! Of course, I still will help Amy with the meat of the wedding planning =) But I get to stand next to him, hand over the ring, and of course, plan the bachelor party! Hahahaha that will be fun….

Well, my next step is to see a neurologist, so any recommendations in the NOVA area, anyone? Basically my doctor threw up her hands and said, “I have no idea what’s wrong with you!” At least she gave me some Vicodin so I can sleep.

The pain is lessening somewhat, which might be due to the steroids, but the dizziness and facial tingling is still there.

In other news, Aaron successfully switched out our chandelier with a decent looking one we got from Lowe’s a few weeks ago. We left the chain long and just doubled it up, in case whomever buys our house after us has a table and wants it lower.

Thoughtful? Perhaps. Lazy? More likely…

I also bought a cheap sewing maching, so I can make window treatments for the house. I’m just not up for spending $50 a panel (that’s $100 per window, people!) for curtains at Bed, Bath, and Beyond or wherever.

I have a mystery illness which I think needs the attention of House. I’m sure he’d know what was wrong with me – after many needlessly reckless and unjustifiable tests, of course. It might be worth it to not become one of those chronic pain sufferers. That really screws your whole nervous system up.

I’ve had this headache for three weeks straight. Only on the front hemisphere of my head. My face feels constantly tingly – you know when you take that first sip of Red Bull and you get that tingle in your jaw? Yeah, it’s like that, but all over.

Then there’s the dizziness when I turn my head quickly, say when I check my blind spot, the lightheadedness, the general fogginess, the light sensitivity….and no one knows why.

I had a CT scan which came out clear (at least now I know I have no tumors or aneurysms ticking away up there). I’m on steroids for a week in case there is swelling in my brain.

The only other thought was maybe it’s a migraine manifesting strangely. Possible? I guess…I suppose that wouldn’t be so bad.

At this point I just want my head to stop hurting so I can have my life back.

The headline on CNN today when I was at the gym was: Report FindsChinese Restaurant Food High in Fat, Sodium.

Are you kidding me?? This is news suddenly? They just did a report on this, which should be overwhelmingly obvious to anyone who has ever even smelled Chinese food in a restaurant?

Yikes.

I’m happy to report that Mary Ann and Don got engaged last night! Yay! I’m beyond happy for them. Congrats guys!!!

We used two wedding presents today in perfect harmony. One of the things Matt and Amy got us was a meat marinator – totally unexpected, and perfect for us. We can’t wait to use it for wings this summer! And then Aaron’s brother got us (him) a dehydrator – for use with meat or fruit.

Guess which one we are using it for…

We marinated some lean steak overnight, and then put it in the dehydrator for a few hours. Voila! Home made beef jerky!

And oh my god was it good!! With Aaron’s hard core beef jerky addiction, these are two very welcome additions to our kitchen!

This weekend Aaron and I repainted our foyer. We are trying to prepare the house to sell it in a year or two, so we can move to Colorado. It’s going to be a long process, so I foresee a LOT of HGTV weekends.

We saw a huge improvement just after washing our hospital white walls. And I remembered why I hate washing walls so much. Ugh.

It took us two days and two trips to Lowes to get it done, but it was worth it. The house already looks so much better. It’s supposed to be a soft cream, but it definitely has some lemon lime undertones – not exactly the look I was going for but hey – it’s better than it was!

Now we know how much time and effort it took to paint that small area, I think we psyched ourselves out a little bit for painting the rest of the house. Good thing we are taking next weekend off to go to Snowshoe…hopefully after that I will be re-energized to keep painting!
