February 2007

I don’t feel bad breaking the news, since neither of them blog…but Matt and Amy are engaged! I was in on all of it, which was really fun! Matt completely surprised her, and I helped lead her astray. Ah yeah…I’m good…she had NO idea.

I’m so so happy that two of my dearest friends are marrying each other. Such a wonderful thing!

Aaron and I bought our first piece of furniture together today.

Our first real piece of furniture. Not particle board, not from Ikea, not including a little packet of screws and tools so we can put it together, but an honest to goodness, solid maple piece of furniture.

I feel so grown up.

It’s a buffet, and it can store my wine (very important), and has cupboards to store our nice plates (thanks, registry fulfillment discount program!), linens, serving dishes and silverware, and it even has a pull out board, which I shall use as a cheese board when I am in the mood for some wine and cheese.

We aren’t picking it up until tomorrow, but I can’t wait to start filling it up!

This is how naptime goes in our family.

I’ll be wandering around, cleaning or organizing, or looking for something I lost, and Aaron is sitting on the couch, reading or on the computer. Then he’ll start to get sleepy so he’ll put aside his books or computer, and stretch out on his back. He’ll catch my eye, and without saying anything, throw his arms straight out, in a gesture saying, “Come here, I want to hold you.”

So I stop what I’m doing (how can I resist?) and come over to the couch and lie on top of him, my cheek resting on his chest, both his arms wrapped around me. That will last for about 30 seconds until we feel the couch shift and a loud purring approach us. Buddy wants to snuggle too.

So Aaron will start petting him with one hand, and the cat will tread this way and that, trying to figure out how to lie down with us. He reaches his paw out and pushes it against my lips a few times, saying, “MOVE!”. Then I’ll shift a little bit more, and he’ll climb up on my back. Finally he settles down, resting his head on my shoulder, purring loudly in my ear. Aaron’s arms go back around me, and we all fall asleep.

Heaven.

Aaron and I had the most amazing wedding in Mexico. The best part was spending a week with our friends and family – hanging out on the beach during the day, partying all night, then capping off each night with a stroll along the beach. There were a few ups and downs with the hotel, but all in all we had the best time ever. And ate so much good food! Luckily our snowboarding honeymoon is burning off all those margaritas, and then some.

Here is a video montage of our wedding.

A small number of pics are on our web album

We’re still honeymooning, so more later. But for now I will just say that it meant so much to us to have our friends and family travel so far and put up with so much to help celebrate with us! We kept saying to each other how great our friends were, and I kept hearing from our family how great our friends are too! It was just so wonderful to be able to hang out with everyone again for an extended period of time. It made the wedding what it was. So thanks!

This is my last post as a single woman.

In my heart, I already feel married. I am committed for the rest of my days to this man. No ceremony, no ring could make that more permanent and real than it already is.

Although I suppose the saying it out loud to him in front of all our family in friends adds more weight to it, and I'm sure at that time I will be overwhelmed with emotion. But for right now I am a strange combination of calm and elated.

Ah, I can't wait!
